What it means to sponsor a Playmaker

Kristen Garl is adopting some Lil’ Pups

sponsor a playmaker lil pupRunning her campaign for Carmichael Honorary Mayor means fundraising. The Carmichael Chamber of Commerce is the primary organization to receive the funds raised, and Kristen chose The Playmakers as the Non-Profit who will share in a portion of the money raised.

Thank you Kristen, for paying it forward and sponsoring our Lil’ Pups. You are a true Playmaker, a person of outstanding character doing the right thing for your community. We wish you the best of luck in your campaign!

These funds will help us make a difference in a few kid’s lives. A big difference.

When you donate to Playmakers programs, you help change the lives of kids who may be lost and overlooked at home. The Playmakers Character and Leadership Academy has three core components to empower young persons with tools to overcome life’s challenges and change their perspective on their future.

A little more about Kristen and her Carmichael Honorary Mayor campaign

Express hope. Create dreams.
My name is Kristen Garl. I am humbled and honored to be running for Honorary Mayor of Carmichael. My goal is to express hope and create dreams among the youth, residents, businesses, and visitors of Carmichael by supporting decisions that positively impact the community.

Why Carmichael? Although I am not a resident, I am a businesswoman supporting Carmichael. As General Manager of Express Employment Professionals – Northeast Sacramento office, our territory encompasses Carmichael. Each day, I interact with job seekers, businesses, schools and services that impact Carmichael’s economy. Specifically, I enjoy volunteering as Principal of the Day and teaching employment readiness topics within San Juan Unified School District. My office was recognized as a Most Valued Partner by San Juan Unified School District in June 2018.    Beyond our standard process, I am strategically working on a proposal to connect local employers with SJUSD  Career Technical Education (CTE) graduates to overcome a portion of the trade skills gap in the NE Sacramento  area.

Follow Kristen Garl’s campaign for Carmichael Honorary Mayor 2019!

Express hope and create dreams.

At 4 elementary school campuses, our after school program provides trained mentors for 3-5th grade students. Our college-aged mentors teach The Playmakers curriculum for 90 minutes each day. Academics, Character and Leadership Coaching, and fun recreational activities where the students practice teamwork and what it means to win with honor in the classroom and on the playground.

Contact us if you have questions or would like to help. We appreciate volunteers!

The Playmakers is so grateful for the blessings that have allowed us to continue our mission to help kids in under-served communities.

help the playmakers

Dear Friends of Playmakers:
It has been a busy year and we want to update you on the growth of our program. 2017 has brought us many blessings, and we are proud of the accomplishments that are allowing us to fulfill our mission of affecting young lives through Academics, Character & Leadership and Fitness.

  • Summer Camp at Oak Hills Church.
  • 10-12 trained Coaches mentoring our students.
  • 100 students currently being served during the school year; additional students are served at our Summer Academies.
  • Increased support from local Civic Groups: We could not do what we do without the fine Rotarians, Optimists and Lions in our community.
  • Development of a formal curriculum.

Touching stories from school staff and parents, of changes they have seen in the classroom and at home, are filling our hearts with pride. We don’t call ourselves an anti-bullying program – but we are changing the mindset of young people, coaching them to increase their self-confidence to overcome daily challenges. The acts of kindness stories we are witnessing and hearing tells us our program is touching young lives and The Playmakers pay-it-forward culture is spreading.

As our program evolves, we believe that we are positioned to accelerate our services to many more kids in our area. We are asking for your help which can truly make a difference to the young Playmaker you sponsor. Here are some examples of what your money can buy over the course of one year.

  • $15.00/month: Sponsor classroom materials for our academics portion of the program
  • $25.00/month: Sponsor field trip transportation
  • $35.00/month: Sponsor two young Playmakers
  • $50.00/month: Sponsor the expansion of services to a fifth elementary school in 2018

A small gift can make a big difference for these students

Give Warmth to a Playmakers Student

When you sign up to donate monthly (no minimum!), we will gift a Playmakers Student a pair of gloves!

Every contribution, big or small, gives us the ability to continue our mission of helping at-risk students in under-served communities. For our students, a pair of gloves can make life just a little more comfortable when walking to school or going outside for fitness activities.

One of our Character components teaches students to give back to their communities. Your support becomes an investment in the community – changing the culture on the school campus, and at home.

Thank you to the coaches who are the heart of our academic program

Our academy coaches are paying it forward.

On Saturday, April 29, we celebrated the hard work of our trained coaches. For our sponsors who have not had a chance to visit our program, it was an opportunity to meet these hard-working college students.

They show up and lead by example. They teach our Playmakers in training what it means to love, live a life of purpose, and to have the self confidence to achieve their goals. These adults of upstanding character are paying it forward, and they are the heart of The Playmakers Character and Leadership Academy.

What differentiates the Playmakers after school program is the integration of reading and character modules into our sports and recreation program. Our vision is to be the standard in after-school programs. Our instructors (“coaches”) are high-school and university student athletes who are recommended by their coaches and peers. As coaches they create motivation through inspiration and incentives for participants (VIP attendance at a college game, for example).

“Good human-relations skills have the ability to change people from managing others to leading others.” John Rampey

The Playmakers is a youth mentoring non-profit organization which uses sports to motivate at-risk youth to improve reading skills, grades, behavior and becoming more accountable individuals overall (character growth). Playmakers educates youth and supporting family members in core values of Academics, Serving Others, and Competing with Honor.

4 ways you can support The Playmakers Organization

Big Day of Giving

On May 4, 2017, The Playmakers will join non-profits all over the region in Big Day of Giving 2017. Please consider a modest donation to help us match a 21,000 pledge from local Optimist and Rotary groups.

On-going funding is vital to keep our programs running. From our trained coaches and Let’s Go Learn software licensing, to t-shirts and field trips for each young Playmaker. We are providing tools and support to make a difference in the lives of lost kids, and giving them the power to change their lives.
Since the beginning of Playmakers, our core mission has not changed. Coach Roz believes that  in every generation, we desperately need youth of character who are built to serve others. Every youth we can affect will certainly be a Playmaker for life.

Direct Donation

We are incredibly grateful to the Civic Groups and other donors who support our programs. With the help of individual volunteers, community partners and businesses that support us monetarily, we are helping students accelerate their reading skills and rewarding them for demonstrating exceptional character and leadership. You can show your support by donating directly through pay pal with the button below.
