What it means to sponsor a Playmaker

Kristen Garl is adopting some Lil’ Pups

sponsor a playmaker lil pupRunning her campaign for Carmichael Honorary Mayor means fundraising. The Carmichael Chamber of Commerce is the primary organization to receive the funds raised, and Kristen chose The Playmakers as the Non-Profit who will share in a portion of the money raised.

Thank you Kristen, for paying it forward and sponsoring our Lil’ Pups. You are a true Playmaker, a person of outstanding character doing the right thing for your community. We wish you the best of luck in your campaign!

These funds will help us make a difference in a few kid’s lives. A big difference.

When you donate to Playmakers programs, you help change the lives of kids who may be lost and overlooked at home. The Playmakers Character and Leadership Academy has three core components to empower young persons with tools to overcome life’s challenges and change their perspective on their future.

A little more about Kristen and her Carmichael Honorary Mayor campaign

Express hope. Create dreams.
My name is Kristen Garl. I am humbled and honored to be running for Honorary Mayor of Carmichael. My goal is to express hope and create dreams among the youth, residents, businesses, and visitors of Carmichael by supporting decisions that positively impact the community.

Why Carmichael? Although I am not a resident, I am a businesswoman supporting Carmichael. As General Manager of Express Employment Professionals – Northeast Sacramento office, our territory encompasses Carmichael. Each day, I interact with job seekers, businesses, schools and services that impact Carmichael’s economy. Specifically, I enjoy volunteering as Principal of the Day and teaching employment readiness topics within San Juan Unified School District. My office was recognized as a Most Valued Partner by San Juan Unified School District in June 2018.    Beyond our standard process, I am strategically working on a proposal to connect local employers with SJUSD  Career Technical Education (CTE) graduates to overcome a portion of the trade skills gap in the NE Sacramento  area.

Follow Kristen Garl’s campaign for Carmichael Honorary Mayor 2019!

Express hope and create dreams.

The Playmakers is so grateful for the blessings that have allowed us to continue our mission to help kids in under-served communities.

help the playmakers

Dear Friends of Playmakers:
It has been a busy year and we want to update you on the growth of our program. 2017 has brought us many blessings, and we are proud of the accomplishments that are allowing us to fulfill our mission of affecting young lives through Academics, Character & Leadership and Fitness.

  • Summer Camp at Oak Hills Church.
  • 10-12 trained Coaches mentoring our students.
  • 100 students currently being served during the school year; additional students are served at our Summer Academies.
  • Increased support from local Civic Groups: We could not do what we do without the fine Rotarians, Optimists and Lions in our community.
  • Development of a formal curriculum.

Touching stories from school staff and parents, of changes they have seen in the classroom and at home, are filling our hearts with pride. We don’t call ourselves an anti-bullying program – but we are changing the mindset of young people, coaching them to increase their self-confidence to overcome daily challenges. The acts of kindness stories we are witnessing and hearing tells us our program is touching young lives and The Playmakers pay-it-forward culture is spreading.

As our program evolves, we believe that we are positioned to accelerate our services to many more kids in our area. We are asking for your help which can truly make a difference to the young Playmaker you sponsor. Here are some examples of what your money can buy over the course of one year.

  • $15.00/month: Sponsor classroom materials for our academics portion of the program
  • $25.00/month: Sponsor field trip transportation
  • $35.00/month: Sponsor two young Playmakers
  • $50.00/month: Sponsor the expansion of services to a fifth elementary school in 2018

help playmakers

If you can’t give today, do you know someone with a heart for helping kids? Are you connected to a business that might sponsor an educational field trip? We are looking for caring people who would like to make a difference. Contact Coach Roz at 916-220-1284 or ThePlaymakers.org, or download our donation form here.

May you have a Merry Holiday and a Blessed New Year!

A small gift can make a big difference for these students

Give Warmth to a Playmakers Student

When you sign up to donate monthly (no minimum!), we will gift a Playmakers Student a pair of gloves!

Every contribution, big or small, gives us the ability to continue our mission of helping at-risk students in under-served communities. For our students, a pair of gloves can make life just a little more comfortable when walking to school or going outside for fitness activities.

One of our Character components teaches students to give back to their communities. Your support becomes an investment in the community – changing the culture on the school campus, and at home.

donate a helping handHow to give:

Download our donation form to setup a small monthly draft. We suggest $25-35/month which helps us keep the lights on and provide coaching for the students.

Coaching in the Inner City

This article was published last month in Daily Word, A Faith-based website of resources and Daily Inspiration by Unity. Coach Roz speaks about his coaching experiences and his passion for helping lost kids.

When I started coaching high school football in one of Sacramento’s roughest areas, I didn’t know some of these kids had no place to live or that they didn’t know where their next meal was coming from. Many had never known their father. They all wanted to play football, even though their school hadn’t won a game in three years. It was a big assignment, but I wanted them to have a male role model in their life who truly cared about them. The football team became “family” for them and they found a sense of belonging and safety.

Many of the boys were failing academically, so I started an early-morning tutoring program. Initially, we were just helping them catch up on their homework. It didn’t take long to find out that they were failing because they couldn’t read. We switched our focus to reading and getting them caught up in the foundational pieces necessary for them to pass their subjects.

We wanted to provide ongoing support and encouragement for kids who had been given such a tough start in life, so Playmakers Mentoring Foundation was born. Through Playmakers, we promote character and leadership to disadvantaged and at-risk kids using football as the conduit. For many of these kids, our program became a lifeline.

You have to be willing to meet the kids where they are. That means going to difficult neighborhoods and broken homes and being comfortable developing relationships with the kids and their families, just as Jesus would. We try to model Jesus by how we carry ourselves, how we live our lives, and how we interact with kids. That’s what being a Playmaker is all about.

Please consider a donation to The Playmakers on Big Day of Giving 2017

On May 4, 2017, The Playmakers will join non-profits all over the region in Big Day of Giving 2017.

On-going funding is vital to keep our programs running. From our trained coaches and Let’s Go Learn software licensing, to t-shirts and field trips for each young Playmaker. We are providing tools and support to make a difference in the lives of lost kids, empowering them to overcome life’s challenges.

Even a small donation can make a huge difference. This year, the minimum pledge is only $15, and that can be used for field trips or a pizza day reward celebration. Our programs are provided at no cost to the student or parent, so every dollar helps.

Since the beginning of Playmakers, our core mission has not changed. I believe in every generation, we desperately need youth of character who are built to serve others. By contributing to something bigger than themselves they, they learn their value and potential. Every youth we can affect will certainly be a Playmaker for life.
Sincerely,
Greg Roeszler
