Why are we here?

We are a character academy serving the toughest kids in the community who might be lost in the system, come from difficult circumstances or be a youth with special needs. In 5 years we have served over 500 kids with a character-building curriculum facilitated by Sac State Student Athletes who the kids respect and look up to. The results have been amazing. Teachers, principals, parents and our coaches are seeing improved behavior, academics, character and community involvement.

Q: Why do you choose to support The Playmakers?

A: I try to live with a servant heart, and with youth development programs being an area with a high impact opportunity, this is an area of focus for me. Playmakers is doing some amazing work in the communities they serve, changing lives of not just the children in the program but impacting entire families.

Q: What results have you seen/would like to see that makes you feel like you are making a difference?

A: I believe that together we can make a difference in the lives of our young people and future generations, if we never compromise our focus on helping them building strong character traits from a young age. It’s amazing to me to see the growth of kids in this program, most of which come from backgrounds of despair, heartbreak and little to no means to speak of. Yet, their resilience and relentless determination is something that inspires me daily. The world needs more programs like The Playmakers to keep pushing the needle.

Q: Why do you choose to support The Playmakers?

A: I welcomed the opportunity to join the Playmakers Board in an effort to improve lives of at risk youth which is at the center of my focus. After a long  career with the California Dept. of Corrections & Rehabilitation I feel that our program provides youth with a chance to learn life skills and become productive citizens.  This mentoring program has proven results that gives credibility to the the model.

Q: What results have you seen/would like to see that makes you feel like you are making a difference?

A: I have witnessed our program in action both in schools and the summer program. The respect, confidence, and learning ability of the children enrolled has allowed me to appreciate the fact that we are helping under privileged children have a stronger chance of success as they progress through life.  I see this as a life changing opportunity that allows me to give back to the community
