Help us meet our goal to serve more youth this summer

Outside the classroom, young people need peer support, not peer conflict.

Our mission is to mentor youth who are struggling, with a focus on character development. Our coaches give the kids powerful tools to apply during times of high-stress in their lives, to help them make better decisions for their future. Our program acts as support mechanism after the school day is done, and in the summer when gaps in learning occur.

For kids that come from disadvantaged and sometimes volatile backgrounds, The Playmakers Team is a safe place where they can feel included and learn who they want to be through character development, academics, fitness and recreation

If you want to see what last year’s Summer Academy looked like, check out the video! Keep scrolling if you would like to read about some recent events which show how we are changing student’s lives.

A principle’s report from Skycrest Elementary campus:

“Quick, go get someone from the office,” Sarah yelled as she came upon a cluster of kids just outside the fence. “Stop” she said in her bravest voice, “Is this fair to all concerned?” The bully took a step back, and everyone was looking at her. After a deep breath she said, “Will this build goodwill and better friendships?” This quick thinking bought enough time for the teacher to arrive before the bully could escape. Sarah was so relieved, and glad she had learned the Rotary Principles at Playmakers after school.

A teacher’s observation in the classroom at Woodland Prairie:

Savion had many challenges last fall which left him agitated most days. When he was invited to join the new after-school program, he only went because it meant he didn’t have to go home and be alone. He did not have a Dad and his mom worked a lot. Savion’s teacher told us that he is now participating in class, his mood has improved and you can tell he feels very proud to be part of The Playmakers Team.

Updated from the Cordova Villa Coach:

After school, Johnny reports to Coach Alec and quickly finishes his homework. After some character drills, he is outside, running and catching the football with his teammates. Johnny had a hard time at first learning to work with the group – he wanted to keep the spotlight on himself. Over the last few months, Johnny has been more helpful with others on the team, and is learning that there are times to let others shine.

The Playmakers is so grateful for the blessings that have allowed us to continue our mission to help kids in under-served communities.

help the playmakers

Dear Friends of Playmakers:
It has been a busy year and we want to update you on the growth of our program. 2017 has brought us many blessings, and we are proud of the accomplishments that are allowing us to fulfill our mission of affecting young lives through Academics, Character & Leadership and Fitness.

  • Summer Camp at Oak Hills Church.
  • 10-12 trained Coaches mentoring our students.
  • 100 students currently being served during the school year; additional students are served at our Summer Academies.
  • Increased support from local Civic Groups: We could not do what we do without the fine Rotarians, Optimists and Lions in our community.
  • Development of a formal curriculum.

Touching stories from school staff and parents, of changes they have seen in the classroom and at home, are filling our hearts with pride. We don’t call ourselves an anti-bullying program – but we are changing the mindset of young people, coaching them to increase their self-confidence to overcome daily challenges. The acts of kindness stories we are witnessing and hearing tells us our program is touching young lives and The Playmakers pay-it-forward culture is spreading.

As our program evolves, we believe that we are positioned to accelerate our services to many more kids in our area. We are asking for your help which can truly make a difference to the young Playmaker you sponsor. Here are some examples of what your money can buy over the course of one year.

  • $15.00/month: Sponsor classroom materials for our academics portion of the program
  • $25.00/month: Sponsor field trip transportation
  • $35.00/month: Sponsor two young Playmakers
  • $50.00/month: Sponsor the expansion of services to a fifth elementary school in 2018

If you can’t give today, do you know someone with a heart for helping kids? Are you connected to a business that might sponsor an educational field trip? We are looking for caring people who would like to make a difference. Contact Coach Roz at 916-220-1284 or ThePlaymakers.org, or download our donation form here.

May you have a Merry Holiday and a Blessed New Year!
Sincerely,
Greg “Coach Roz” Roeszler

A small gift can make a big difference for these students

Give Warmth to a Playmakers Student

When you sign up to donate monthly (no minimum!), we will gift a Playmakers Student a pair of gloves!

Every contribution, big or small, gives us the ability to continue our mission of helping at-risk students in under-served communities. For our students, a pair of gloves can make life just a little more comfortable when walking to school or going outside for fitness activities.

One of our Character components teaches students to give back to their communities. Your support becomes an investment in the community – changing the culture on the school campus, and at home.

donate a helping handHow to give:

Download our donation form to setup a small monthly draft. We suggest $25-35/month which helps us keep the lights on and provide coaching for the students.

Our programs are based on our character-based curriculum with trained coaches who work one-on-one with the students.  The Playmakers Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization ID: 26-4648226. All monetary donations are tax deductible.

Can you help us purchase gloves to warm the hands of our young Playmakers?

Would you give a kid a helping hand?

donate a helping handFitness is an integral part of our program, and we want our kids to have warm hands when it is chilly outside. This small gift can mean a whole lot to someone whose family is struggling.

For every monthly donation sign up through December, we will purchase new gloves for one Playmaker student.

A small monthly donation of $20 can support our program all year long. If you are already giving monthly, why not introduce our program to a friend who has a heart for helping kids?

We need your help to change the world, please visit ThePlaymakers.org/donate to learn more about our monthly giving program.

The Playmakers 2017 Annual Tri Tip Dinner

Saturday, April 29

Over the last year, the students in our Playmakers Academy have shown us how they are learning positive character traits and practicing acts of kindness in their community.

Ticket prices are $35 each or $280 for a table of eight.

How you can contribute: In addition to your dinner ticket, we ask you invite a friend who shares your passion for helping youth. You can help us spread the word about how we are changing young lives in disadvantaged communities.

Big Day of Giving 2017: This year The Playmakers is participating in this nationwide event to raise funds to keep our programs in place. Our goal is to match a 21,000 donation in place from our civic group sponsors. You can learn more about our Big Day of Giving campaign here.
